Position Overview:
The Director of Mental Health Services is responsible for providing direct support to victims of domestic and sexual violence . This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of behavioral health and supportive services.  This position is also responsible for supervising Counseling services, victim advocacy and hotline services teams.

HOURS: 40 hours weekly minimum or as necessary to achieve program objectives, responsibilities, and tasks.    Work Schedule to include:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the primary counselor for the agency, providing appropriate and empathetic therapeutic service to victims of domestic violence.
  • Serves as a mentor to agency counselors, assisting with development with client therapy plans.
  • Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified counselors/therapists.
  • Supervise and collaborate with organizational staff.
  • Responsible for entering client notes into data management system in a timely manner.
  • Overseeing and auditing counselors’ client notes into the data management system.
  • Work with PM to conduct performance evaluations for all counseling staff.
  • Responsible for facilitating and coordinating support groups or assigning alternate facilitators and providing support group materials.

  • Strong public speaking ability.
  • Ability to provide professional consultation and conference in a supportive manner.
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity and knowledge of social factors in providing services to diverse populations, including rural populations.
  • Skills and experience in networking to develop community awareness.
  • Knowledge of, or capacity, to learn family code and legal procedures.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Must possess a current Texas driver’s license and maintain personal auto insurance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide therapy for identified clients, with services appropriately designed to assist victims of domestic violence, including assessment of client safety.
  • Provide victims with a written referral list of appropriate community agencies.
  • Provide victims with Emotional Support Animal (ESA) letters when needed.
  • Assess the client's risk of violence and injury and establish a safety plan to reduce chances of injuries.
  • Assist in conjunction with the Legal Advocate, the clients’ ability to determine needed legal services.
  • Support the program by participating in fundraising efforts, calendar events, outreach endeavors, which include public/community presentations.
  • Consult with treatment team regarding client counseling plans.
  • Prepare documentation related to program service, statistics, and demographics as required for grant source(s) and in compliance with regulatory statues.
  • Attend all staff meetings and initiate emergency staffing when needed.
  • Provide therapeutic services scheduled during working hours.
  • Maintain appropriate licensure and/or certifications by meeting the continuing education requirements of the regulating state agency.
  • Review and know program objectives for grant goals and outcomes for counseling.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Preferred but not mandatory, a minimum of 2-years’ experience in counseling dealing with victims of family violence and sexual assault; experience with crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, individual and group counseling, clinical assessment skills.
  • Preferred qualifications but not mandatory; bilingual in English/Spanish.
  • Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or a related field.  
  • Supervision status preferred. 
  • Proven experience in leading behavioral health and/or social service teams. 
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve results.  
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport with clients and community partners and engage and influence diverse stakeholders. 
  • Ability to assess staff needs, provide coaching and feedback, and develop individualized goals. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to coordinate and manage multiple tasks and teams. 
  • Empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity when working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Education and Other Requirements:
  • Minimum of a 4-year degree or comparable experience.
  • Must pass a criminal background check, motor vehicle report, and reference checks.
  • Must have a clean driving record/automobile insurance coverage/be insurable/ have at least three years of verifiable driving experience.
  • Provide proof and maintain personal automobile insurance coverage.
  • Ability to lift/carry/move a minimum of 40 lbs. for an extended distance.
Job-Specific Competencies:
  • Computer knowledge of programs including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills to assist with in-the-moment issues or crises.
  • Sensitivity regarding the issues of family violence and sexual assault.
